Your Role
In this volunteer experience, you will assist seniors in the Y-Scholars Program. With your involvement, we will help our scholars get into college and continue to pursue their dreams!

You will guide Y-Scholars through the various stages of the college application process. With your assistance, we can ensure that each Y-Scholar has individualized attention and guidance.

What we expect:
  • Weekly progress tracking of Y-Scholars
  • Weekly personal and reading journal (field notes)
  • Weekly timesheet tracking (volunteer time)
  • Mid-semester and Final CLASP evaluations

Be passionate! (Preparation & Effort)
We do not expect you to know everything about college/advising. However, we expect you to put in your best effort and to continuously challenge yourself to grow as an advisor. We want you to participate in ongoing dialogue with us on how to improve the program and make the experience memorable for Y-Scholars.

Be committed (Attendance)
We want to promote a culture of commitment. Volunteers will be expected to fulfill all their hours of advising every week. If any emergencies come up, please communicate ahead of time.

Our ideal senior advisors exemplify CLASP:
  • Commit to responsibilities
  • Lead by being a role model
  • Approach situations with a growth mindset attitude
  • Self-disciplined in all plans and projects
  • Passionate in what they do
