Berkeley Community Scholars Scholarship Programs Quick Presentation

Fatima Rodriguez-Ortiz will be talking about the two scholarship programs available to Berkeley public school graduates. One of them is the High Hopes Scholarship Program, which is a college success program designed to provide mentorship, programs, community support, and resources. Scholars receive a scholarship of $16,000.
The second scholarship is the Berkeley Promise, which is a college access and matriculation scholarship initiative designed to help scholars advance on a path to earn a degree or certificate that starts with community college. BCS awards 25 scholarships in the fall which includes $1,500 paid directly to the student over 2 years (while in community college) and monthly group mentoring sessions to help students succeed.

Ann Helfman will be briefly introducing the College & Alumni Program (CAP) college success program that provides financial literacy training, one-to-one college coaching, and need-based scholarship funding for nearly 700 low-income and underserved students from the Bay Area. Their need-based scholarship can be up to $5,000 of annually funding (for a maximum of 5 years). More information about this scholarship available at 3:15PM.

Julia Maciel, College Adviser Fellow with the Early Academic Outreach Program University of California, Berkeley, will be presenting information on how to apply to CSU and EOP. This presentation is recommended for first gen students and families who are not familiar with the application process.

Jamal Collins, Financial Aid Outreach & Communications Liaison - Student Financial Support University of California, Office of the President, will be presenting on how the UC financial aid process works. He will provide insight on how UC can help cover the student’s needs and provide resources for students and parents.

Julia Maciel, College Adviser Fellow with the Early Academic Outreach Program - University of California, Berkeley, will be presenting information on how to apply to the UC campuses. She will lead a presentation on how to “brag” about yourself in the Personal Insight Questions (PIQs). This presentation is recommended for first gen students and families who are not familiar with the application process and are starting their PIQs.
